I still remember the day I arrived in Oslo like it was yesterday and quite frankly I wish it still was only yesterday.
I arrived in Oslo on NYE 2016 and after being given directions to my accommodation by a friendly Norwegian that I had met on the plane, I set about trying to enjoy the new year with some locals. Luckily enough I had met some Norwegians from UTS Intents who were more than happy to send me in the direction of their friends living in Oslo. What resulted was watching fireworks go off literally 5 metres away from you in an inner city park, before rushing to a house party where people were more than happy to share their champagne and cigars as everyone danced the night away. That was day one…

Ryerson University, a technical focused institution in the heart of downtown Toronto, just down the road from the prestigious University of Toronto. It has a whole bunch of brutalist style buildings sitting next to super modern fancy looking building, and the internet occasionally doesn’t work. Sound familiar?

UWhen I first visited Barcelona during 2 months Euro-trip in the summer of 2014, I told myself: I shall be back to this amazing city one day. Little did I know, my dream would be realized less than 2 years later—with the UTS Global Exchange program.

Spring is here! The birds are chirping, the sun is out and an array of flowers fills the cityscape. It has been 27 days since I arrived in Germany, and my understanding of this historic land continues to be enriched each day. The HfG University is situated in Schwäbisch Gmünd, a small rural town located southwest of Germany. Living in a small town has provided time for considered reflection on the abundance of experiences and perspectives available. (more…)

When I left Australia for my exchange it was during a heatwave and when I first stepped foot in Zürich after leaving the airport there was snow on the ground. It kind of just sunk in at that moment that I truly was on the other side of the world and that my dream about going on exchange had come true. When I woke up the next morning and looked out my window it was like living in a real life snow globe and I was amazed by how beautiful the city was in the daylight. (more…)

Leaving Sydney’s scorching heat of 40ºC to arrive to Prague’s blistering winter of -6ºC was quite the shock. For me, the coldest weather I’ve experienced is the chiller section in woolies. I was glad to have packed my kathmandu thermals as they proved useful for all of February. Arriving in Prague was overwhelming, I was welcomed at the airport by my Czech buddy Honza where we took an Uber to the dormitories. Despite 26 hours of flying, staring out the window to see the snow was incredible. Before then, I had only seen snow at Thredbo. (more…)

I have been happily calling Stockholm home for the last 2 months and what a magical home it has turned out to be. The city itself is arranged neatly on various small islands, covered in pastel coloured buildings making the gloom of the winter weather somewhat bearable. My room is one of 12 in a corridor and I have a view of a forest from my window, I am living at campus Lappis which is idyllically situated within a nation park.

I decided to attend Tilburg University after my best friend came back from what he termed the best six months of his life. After looking at the other potential universities offered to law students, the blogs posted on this website and the surveys posted on UTS Blackboard, I soon realised why he had picked Tilburg. I started my study abroad journey with a booking for a one-way flight to one of the largest cities in Scandinavia – Stockholm, Sweden. I ended up landing in this enormous city in the middle of winter. I was very cold, very jetlagged, knee deep in snow, and with no idea of what would happen for the next six months of my life. I had no Swedish language skills, had never lived so far away from my friends and family, and had never had such a severe craving for Vegemite. I was so nervous to step out of the airport into an entirely different culture. But, it’s the things that make you nervous and excited that are worth doing. So, I ended up relying on my gut feeling that this would be a life changing experience. (more…)
