  • Chasing Scandinavian Sunsets

1 month to go. The countdown has sadly begun. Yet as my study exchange comes to an end, I can look back and reflect on an amazing and incredible time in Denmark.

Denmark. The home of the Vikings, where pork is life, black is the new black, biking is a way of life (snow, rain, hail, sleet: who cares), the wind is never still and skyr and rye rule breakfast.

Although I have travelled through Europe before, I never made it up to Denmark. Copenhagen is seen by many as the capital of Scandinavia, and and I soon discovered why: it’s beguiling nature, cosmopolitanism, and friendliness make it unforgettable. (more…)

  • A Semester of Smørrebrød

When in Copenhagen do as the Danes do.

There’s something magical about winters in Copenhagen. The clouds brew over the quiet, empty streets of the city and the Danes sit snuggly indoors by candlelight sipping endless amounts of warm coffee and consuming innumerable amounts of pastries. Or at least that’s what I have been doing this past winter! It’s very hard not to be indoors, where the sun sets at 4pm and the Danish winds pull me towards the call of warmth exuding, floral and candle decorated entrances of Hygge cafes, furthered by a penchant for finding the absent street population and the chicest Copenhagen cafe. • Hong Kong – My Exchange at PolyU

Reaching my last few days in Hong Kong, as cliché as it is to say that my exchange program was a life-changing experience, it was so much more than words can describe.

Ever since my first semester at UTS, I’ve always been interested in going on exchange but was held back by my many fears such as being independent and not having been overseas before, the language barrier due to my poor level of Cantonese and the financial side of it. Fast forward to the second year of my degree, I decided that I would give it a shot of applying for exchange after having attended exchange sessions and learning about government loans and scholarships.

  • My Bordeaux Adventure

I arrived in Bordeaux at the beginning of January filled with excitement and anticipation for my upcoming semester abroad. Thanks to the student run organisation for international students, Melting Potes, I was able to meet most of my fellow exchange peers within the first few days and nights. (more…)

  • Baxter Atkins (Rotterdam, the Netherlands)

It’s been several months here in Rotterdam and I am loving just about everything there is. The Dutch people seem to have life figured out and pretty great, from the canals to the clogs to the endless cheese shops it’s everything I could have asked for. Especially now as the weather improves and Europe is really beginning to shine, the baby ducks swim on the campus pond, students relax in the heat and I am finding it all the more impossible to study with the country beckoning me to explore it. What can I say, you can never see too many windmills or eat too much pickled fish – the Netherlands is the most quintessentially European place and truly my second home (more…)

  • China Exchange, The Trip Of a Lifetime

I am currently halfway through my exchange experience studying at Shanghai University in China. A fact that I am still coming to grips with, it seems that only a week ago I said goodbye to my family and friends and hopped on a plane to China. I feel like that really summarizes the most outstanding feature of shanghai, that being that this is one hell of a faced paced city. (more…)

  • Sydney to Seoul

Now only with a little more than a month left of my stay in Seoul, I thought I’d share the little wisdom I’ve gained while on exchange at Yonsei University. (more…)

  • Stockholm, my second home.

On January 16th 2016, I left Sydney to pursue a five-month exchange in Stockholm, Sweden, followed by two months of independent travel around Europe. Prior to this trip, the longest I had been away from home was when I spent 2 months in France on a student exchange when I was 15 years old. While the 7 months ahead seemed slightly daunting, I was overwhelmed with excitement. I was heading the Sweden, the land of IKEA, meatballs and tall blondes! (more…)

  • Ich bin in Berlin und ist mir egal.

So, for all those out there wondering, should I go to berlin, Yes! However there are some catches to prepare for:

  • Lisbon Lisbon Lisbon

I knew barely anything about Lisbon before I arrived. I chose it for exchange because a co-worker recommended it. Over a 30 second water-cooler chat, she told me how her day was going and about the time she travelled all around Europe and how Lisbon was her favourite because the city was beautiful, the night life was cool and the food was delicious. I smiled politely and went back to work. Kinda very generic, but it was good enough for me. And here I am in Lisbon. Ah, Lisbon. Where do I start? (more…)
