It has been just over 3 weeks since I left Australia and all the comforts of home. I have been living out of a suitcase, particularly as I traveled from Dallas, TX in the US all the way up to my new home at the University of Ottawa, ON, Canada.
In that time, I have went to many fun American cities, where I have lived in AirBNBs or with family/friends. My travels took me through Dallas, Austin, San Antonio, Houston, Memphis, Nashville, Cincinnati, Pittsburgh, Philadelphia, New York and Albany before I eventually made my way to Ottawa. It’s fair to say that I have seen and learned a lot in a very short period of time. My world view has definitely come into question and my perspectives have been broadened by many people whom I have met along the way. These people have been anyone from AirBNB hosts to Uber drivers to bus passengers to fellow travelers. My trip took me to icons like the San Antonio River Walk, Elvis Presley’s Graceland, Nashville Honky Tonks, Rocky’s Art Museum Steps and even the US Open. It was a great opportunity for me to travel solo for parts of the trip but also to meet up with friends and family and enjoy travelling with them.
The final stop on my journey is Ottawa. Here I am, currently settling in to my residence during Frosh Week, which is basically Orientation for new students. So far, I have met so many people, including plenty of Canadian freshmen, fellow exchange students from all over the world, and many more. We have done so many fun things including bubble soccer, parties, a light show at Parliament and just general shenanigans. The University of Ottawa was even giving out 3D-printed Pokemon, so I’ve definitely hit the jackpot here. It’s been good fun so far, getting to meet all these people and experience a different part of the world. I feel really lucky to have this opportunity and I’m definitely looking forward to making the most of it during the rest of the semester.
