Experiencing Milan the Cattolica way!
As long as I can remember going on global exchange in the UK was something I always had my heart set on… I never really considered other options until I began the application process and quickly became fascinated with the idea of studying in Milan. Fast forward to the present and here I am, in Milano, not the UK but loving every minute of it!
(Just picked up my apartment key!)
After travelling around Paris and various destinations in Italy such as Rome, Florence, Venice, Saturnia, I have officially arrived in Milan and boy oh boy it has not disappointed! Everyone always refers to Milan as “industrial” and “grey” however in reality it is a truly beautiful city. Every building has strong character and the tree lined streets are often filled with quirky cafes and bars, oh and very fashionable people.
It definitely lives up to its name as a fashion capital especially in the areas surrounding the Duomo, so if you are even half the shopping addict I am you will be spending a lot of time there!
I haven’t had the opportunity to experience much of the night life here yet however the Naviglia district holds the best happy hour I have ever seen! Referred to as Appertivo, you are essentially able to get yourself a drink and a free buffet for anywhere between 7 – 10 euro! It has a really relaxed atmosphere, with many places outlooking the canals.
The University of Cattolica del Sacro Cuore has definitely opened its arms to exchange students and given us all a warm welcome. Orientation spans across three days and so far have been very enjoyable. The UCSC Treasure Hunt was a stand out activity as it allowed us to explore the city and mingle with other exchange students from all around the world. Classes are yet to start but I am sure they will just as enjoyable.
To finish up I would just like to say that coming on exchange can feel overwhelming at times but just remember everyone is in the same boat! No one knows where they are going or what they are doing and everyone is looking for a friend! So smile and put yourself out there!
