Goudemorgen, from Eindhoven – the Netherlands

View from Dom Tower, Utrecht

It’s been nearly two months since the semester started at Eindhoven, and much has happened since.  Their semester is divided into two quartiles, with most subjects only taking the length of one, and the design studio taking the full length of the semester.  I happen to have more subjects in the first quartile, so things are more hectic at times but it’s still manageable.  Even so, that hasn’t stopped me travelling to different cities for the weekend whenever an opportunity arises.  So far I’ve had three weekend trips, the latest one was just last week to Brussels, and I have another one planned the coming weekend to Amsterdam to see a football game.

Eindhoven, unlike what people would imagine of Amsterdam, has no canals or narrow building lots, instead it’s a rather industrial small city, one that you can cross from one side of the ring to the other in less than 30 minutes on bike.  I actually like the fact that Eindhoven is small city and not too crowded, it makes getting around easier.  Despite it being small, it still has a nice nightlife in the city centre, and it also has some cool bars and restaurants in a refurbished industrial area near where I’m staying.  Riding the bike is definitely the easiest and cheapest way to get around, although it did take a while to get used to being on the opposite side of the road.  Oh and if I hadn’t mentioned already, beer here can be so cheap, it’s ridiculous compared to prices we have in Sydney, so it’s always tempting to grab a beer after a long day of class.
