The city of Ljubljana: A Hidden Gem
In July, I spent just under 3 weeks in Slovenia, where the city of Ljubljana became my temporary home. My main goal was to study the art and science of negotiations, but this trip turned out to be so much more than just an academic endeavour—it was a full-blown adventure filled with learning, exploration, and forging global connections.

Ljubljana is a true hidden gem. It’s a city that effortlessly blends the old with the new, featuring cosy riverside cafés, bustling squares, and a mix of medieval and modern architecture. The city has a relaxed and inviting atmosphere making me feel at home. As I studied in the day and explored at night, I found that the city’s vibe was the perfect backdrop for both intense study and relaxed reflection. Between classes, I’d often find myself at a café with friends, sipping coffee while taking in the vibrant surroundings.
One of the most enriching aspects of my time in Ljubljana was the chance to meet and interact with people from all over the world. The program attracted a diverse group of participants, each bringing their unique perspectives and experiences to the table. Whether during a class discussion or over dinner, I found myself constantly learning from my peers. These interactions not only deepened my understanding of global negotiation practices but also helped me build a network of connections that spans across continents.
I also made sure to explore as much of the country as possible. I travelled to Istria and the coastal town of Koper, where I swam in the Adriatic Sea whilst also learning of the country’s rich history. Koper’s narrow streets but beautiful Venetian-style architecture made it easy to lose track of time while wandering.

A particularly amazing experience was visiting the UNESCO-listed Škocjan Caves. Descending into this vast underground network, I was surrounded by ancient stalactites and stalagmites. It was one of those experiences that leaves a lasting impression, and I could not recommend visiting here more.
Of course, no trip to Slovenia would be complete without visiting the iconic Lake Bled and the serene Lake Bohinj. Bled, with its fairytale-like island church and cliffside castle, was every bit as magical as I had imagined. In contrast, Bohinj offered a more peaceful escape, surrounded by the untouched beauty of the Julian Alps. Here, a group of us got to go hiking and check out waterfalls and the beautiful view of the mountains.

My time in Slovenia was a perfect blend of academic pursuit, adventure, and cultural immersion. I left not only with a deeper understanding of negotiations but also with a global network of connections and a heart full of memories from this captivating country.
